Fellow TMJ sufferer here! I have bad days where my jaw aches (Especially in the cold) or locks up, and it ALWAYS clicks, there's no downtime from that. I've known for five years, so it's certainly something you can live with. Ibuprofen will help with swelling and pain, as will keeping warm, I have many more problems in the winter than any other time.

Definitely use your mouth guard! I grind my teeth in my sleep if I'm sick, and that makes everything worse. If a day seems worse than others, avoid things that require heavy chewing such as gum or tough meats. (For me, popcorn makes things worse on a bad day.)

If you can scrounge up the money, I would go just to make sure it's TMJ and not something more serious, but you should be able to self-manage, I never did get the surgery they wanted for me.

Good luck!

Yeah, I've only had problems with it once. I think it is the stress. Hopefully it goes away after I try to relax a bit more. The mouth guard has definitely helped!

It could be! Stress makes you tense, tense makes it worse. Have some comfort food and a good movie.
