Writing advice needed!

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm working on a writing project right now, and I'm really, really stuck in the middle. I know how I want the story to start, I know how I want it to end but I have fuck all idea how to get from point A to point B. Any suggestions on how I can figure out a middle?

The usual advice is to start at the end and work your way back to the beginning from there. How can your characters end up at the ending? What needs to happen?

Most narrative plots tend to have some sort of complication that the characters need to overcome in order to reach the resolution. If it's part of a series you sometimes have a minor one and then a major one. The minor one would be preventing the theft of the Philosopher's Stone, and the major would be defeating Lord No-Nose - which only happens before the final conclusion.

This is a really basic structure model.

I don't really think I can offer any other advice without knowing the plot, sorry!

It really is kind of tough to give ideas without knowing your story.
But what I always try is think of "moments" that have to happen in the middle. It can be just a scene you think would be funny, or a moment of characterization, or something that's cool, something the characters have to learn in order to reach the end, etc.
You can also try to go according to your characters - what do they want? What is logical for them to try and do? --and then see where that leads you.
