I'm ok with OCs popping up in fics. Sometimes you need them to move things along. But if people feel the need to specifically point them out, I'm less inclined to read. I expect a certain amount of original characters to be mixed in with the canon, but don't list them in the character list man!

Sometimes people warn for OCs because there are people who get all angry when an OC pops up in a fic.

A lot of people just don't want to deal with that so it saves grief just to mention it up front. "Hey this character has an OC in it. If you're not cool with that this probably isn't a fic for you."

It's a no-win situation. Either you're going to be accused of creating a Mary-Sue because you've mentioned your OFC in the description, of you're going to be accused of springing the Mary-Sue on them without warning.

Personally, I'd rather warn up-front.

You got that right.

And I agree on warning. I'll take the option where the worst that will happen is someone will scroll by, or possibly judge me.
