Agreed! Look how shitty Sailor Moon Crystal was with their lame animation and fucking up the manga story a bit more.

Anime has been boring lately and I have yet to find a great anime from the 2010s. I feel that today's animation is very piss poor to the point that they're redoing animations on their blu rays and they're playing it safe (Ninja Scroll and The End Of Evangelion is way too violent compared to animes of today). The 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s is where it's at.

Meanwhile, shows like Heartcatch Precure have much better animation that the original Sailor Moon.

da

The original Sailor Moon started in 1992 and was done by hand. Good try.

Dude, drawing and animation is still done entirely by hand. The entire actual frame-by-frame animation process for most anime is still pencil and paper. The frames are only digitized after they are drawn by hand traditionally, they are then scanned, the line-art is digitized, and the process of colouring and editing and everything else continues from there.

Thanks for telling me that! I thought animation in anime became more digitalized for some reason.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
DA It is more digital now, even if a company still scans in their pencil roughs they still use the computer for basically everything else.

Animation is by no means easy but it does give you more shortcuts on the computer then they had back in the 90s.

Er, that's not true for most companies. Yes people are still largely drawing 2D animation but scanning in art is rare, it's usually drawn entirely on the computer.

2D animation is still challenging BUT I'd still say the computer makes it much, much easier then doing everything traditionally. Certain things that took a lot of labor in the 90s take a click of the button now.

Not to mention the production schedule of the original Sailor Moon was MUCH more intense then Sailor Moon Crystal (both are intense by their own right, but the 90s production had a much higher episode order and was on weekly versus Crystal with a much lower episode order and is only on every 2 weeks, with some 3 week breaks.)

I would never say animation is easy in either case but there were a lot of fuckups in Crystal that were stupid considering you could easily fix it in the computer.
