That's okay, Nonny. I'm that way about anime and live-action television both. I remember when both weren't contrived crap with manufactured drama instead of drama that springs naturally from situations.

Say what?

I dare you watch any big sports anime and say there wasn't any manufactured drama in the "good old days" of anime. I mean, "Star of the Giants" is freaking loaded with contrived drama, and that's from the late 60's/early 70's. Not to mention "Captain Tsubasa". Heck, I've been watching "Lady Georgie" lately and it is the epitome of manufactured drama. That's from the 1980s. Or any of the space operas from that timeframe.

I think there may be some tinted goggles at work here. Nice rosy ones.

The past ten years has brought some awesome anime, but either you're judging it at more critical standards than you did in the 90s, or you're just not actually giving it a try.

Nostalgia goggles are strong in the secret. Some of the anime in that pic aren't even great, like Sailor Moon. Doremi or Sakura are better magical girls shows.

While Utena, Eva, and Bebop are pretty good shows, there are still a crapton of anime that's come out in the past 5-10 years that's just as good if not better in some regards. So meh. I don't agree.

I don't know, Mononoke is pretty good. You just gotta look for it (and maybe take off the nostalgia glasses).

Based on those images I am 100% convinced anime will never be inclusive or accepting of women. Western comics and cartoon are slowly growing into the 21st century way of thinking, but I really don't believe anime ever will.

Agreed! Look how shitty Sailor Moon Crystal was with their lame animation and fucking up the manga story a bit more.

Anime has been boring lately and I have yet to find a great anime from the 2010s. I feel that today's animation is very piss poor to the point that they're redoing animations on their blu rays and they're playing it safe (Ninja Scroll and The End Of Evangelion is way too violent compared to animes of today). The 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s is where it's at.

Honestly, animation as a whole seems to have become so homogenized and formulaic, whereas in the pre-2000s you could stumble across some really bizarre works that tried new things and pushed boundaries. I can't imagine something like Fantastic Planet being released today, for example.

I think that back in the day we would get series via filtered stuff. Nowdays we get everything that comes out, so it's obvious we'd get the good things along with the crap.
