What fandoms do you think have the best kind of fanwork?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Like old book fandoms have the best fic or MCU has the best photo edits.

Anime fandoms have some really good fanartists, generally. It's pretty surprising to me how young some of them are.

I agree! Of course there's probably a lot of shit stuff out there in any fandom, too. But some fourteen-year-old kids are churning out absolutely breathtaking art, let alone the adults.

I think anime is probably an easier, or more comfortable outlet for art. I'm not saying that cartoon art isn't difficult, but I can see how it'd be more approachable than trying to draw real life characters.

Silmarillion fandom is great just because of the variety. Shippy fics. Crack and humor fics. Angst. hurt/comfort. Darkfic. Fluffy fic. Really serious gen explorations of canon and characters. Pretty much everything. Also the fanart is pretty amazing.

Labyrinth has a disproportionate amount of good fic. Disney films have the best fanvids. Doctor Who has the best meta. And I'm agreed on MCU having the best photo edits.

Also, for reasons completely unbeknownst to me, South Park has the best fanart.

Do you like comics? Girls Next Door is always fun, if a bit lengthy. http://pika-la-cynique.deviantart.com/gallery/772068

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4076198/1/My-Fine-Feathered-Friend This one was hilarious, and I remember enjoying the author's other works as well.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/402721/chapters/663822 It's been a while but I vaguely remember staying up late to finish this one

In addition, here's the TVTropes list http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanficRecs/Labyrinth

and here is someone else's rec list http://labyrinthresource.tumblr.com/FicRecs

Omg pika!

I'm so behind on her comic because I lost the link to her DA ages ago, and couldn't remember her name, but I have been saved!

Also I'ma have a poke at those fics and rec lists because it's been a long time since I've indulged my Labyrinth fic needs.

Every once in a while I go back and reread the whole thing, but I have a tendency to get bored of things halfway through, and by the time I come back I've forgotten what happened and have to start all over again. So I've never seen the end. (This is also why I've never seen past season 4 of SPN all the way through, though I've seen scattered episodes, even though I own the first 8 seasons on DVD)

I get that, I'm typically good at remembering what's going on in a given TV show/movie but sometimes the length of a show can be daunting to re-watch. I'm usually a one and done kind of gal.

Yes exactly. And I tend to bounce from one thing to another so that doesn't help. (You don't want to know how many tabs I have right now.)

Tvtropes is not a haven for good fic, but it's a good starting point if you aren't in the fandom.

Undertale fandom, hands down, has the best soundworks--fan music AND voice recordings.

I am still amazed at the number of songs I've seen covers of in Klingon.

I'm still waiting for twitch plays Dark Souls. It will probably be an impossible feat. Then again, someone managed it with a Guitar Hero controller. So anything is possible.

SGA and Hannibal are the kings of crack fic.

MLP has some amazing music creators.

Brooklyn99 and Parks&Rec are the best for gifs.
