The designer in question, Jenny Beavan, is a personal friend of his and in on the joke. It was exactly the sort of mild teasing friends do to one another every single day, yet Twitter wants to throw a huge tantrum over it.

Also teasing fashion designers for wearing weird stuff is such a low level joke it's like teasing your Nana for making too much food at holiday dinners.
