Considering I was still getting their names confused (well, actually maybe not Malarky, he might be a slight exception) by the end of the series, which we binge watched... yes.

Yes, if they're not distinct enough for me to tell them apart by the end, the writers didn't do a good enough job with characterization. I didn't have this problem with The Pacific or Generation Kill.

Or you weren't paying enough attention, maybe? All of those characters are recognizable and name-checked a lot.

Nah, not really. They were name checked, but not that recognizable.

Really? Not even someone like Buck. Like, one of the most distinguishable actors I can think of? Even if you don't know his name you know, "That guy with the (literally) white hair.

The one who starts off as a cocky platoon leader and eventually has a nervous breakdown after seeing his friends killed.

I've never watched this image in a loop before. And now I feel a little bad that all I see are Neal McDonough's ears popping out of that helmet.

Yeah, comfort was not as big of an issue in WWII.

Yeah. I'll be totally honest... I forgot he existed.

To be fair though, I have seen maybe five or six dozen WWII films. Almost none of the characters managed to have personalities that I hadn't seen in ten other things already... which might be no fault of the writers and more of a fault of the industry. Parts even really seemed like clever homages.

Who knows? Don't get me wrong, I still thought it was a good show. Better than The Pacific, even.
