This is true. Also, not the argument I would make. I was COMPLETELY on board when they announced the character of Tauriel and reassured fans she wasn't going to be a love interest for Legolas. Adding a female elf sounded AWESOME!

But her character is a travesty. If you honestly like her character, I feel like you should be upset by what they did to her. Did you notice how in the third film all her kick-ass ability just disappears? Both Legolas and Kili (her romantic interests) come to save her. Bolg's death was owed to her.

That's just ONE example of MANY of why her character is terrible, and why many people don't like her.

Other characters who aren't in the book are well loved (Sigrid, Tilda). If a character is done well, only the hardest of hardcore fans will object. But, Tauriel was not well done. She gets earned hate because she COULD have been great but she was actually terrible. Not just disappointing. TERRIBLE.

LOL, I actually considered putting a qualifier about you not needing my blessing because I figured that's how you would take it. :)

I would like to say, trying to point out her flaws does not mean I'm trying to get you to hate her. I adore many flawed characters. I also feel, in this case, it is good to acknowledge her flaws that were imposed upon her by the filmmakers because I hope to get better female characters in future projects (not just fantasy films). (Obviously my personal opinion, not trying to make you feel the same, but it's why I'm engaging in this conversation and will continue to do so.)
