I kinda think the second type is worse? Idk, I might feel uncomfortable around someone who flaunted their wealth, but people that don't even understand how good they have it are exhausting to be around (additionally to it still being potentially somewhat uncomfortable).

(Story Time: A friend of mine once went on a date and at the end of the movie the guy wanted to leave the snacks behind, despite them not being finished, and she was really shocked by this. They talked about it and she was like, I probably don't do things like that because my family was really poor growing up and he answered with "My family also isn't rich at all, my Dad just makes 60k a year." And idk this level of ignorance is just to much for me personally.)

Isn't 60k accurately middle class? The median was 55 or something like that.

Or maybe you're not in the US?

60k is middle class, yeah. It's definitely not rich.

If it's 60k euros or something that might make a big difference is why I asked.

To some people it sounds like it is.

60K is definitely middle class. I'd even classify people who made more than that as middle class, depending on the cost of living of their particular city.

It's middle class, but not poor. If someone says "I grew up poor" it's kind of ignorant to say "Yeah, I know what you mean, my dad only made 60K when I was growing up."

I think maybe in this case it's more that 60k a year (+ whatever the mother makes) may be a lot to someone growing up very poor.

Yeah, I should have said, it is in Euro. And my friend and her mom lived on around 11k a year, just to compare.

And I know that that isn't super rich, but it is definitly not poor either.

What region do you live in? Over in the San Francisco Bay, I wouldn't call anyone who makes 60K rich.

I hate to break it to you, but around here 60K/year is distinctly middle class. It's not rich.

Hate to break it to you, but not everyone lives in the US. Srsly, my country's median income is around 32k euros a year. Before taxes.

Also the story was more about illustrating the ignorance of some people and why that can be awkward.

Also wtf to the leaving snacks behind. That's just wasteful.

Seriously! Delicious snacks should be saved for later.
