Re: Why would anyone not a racist, classist xenophobe vote for Donald Trump?
(Anonymous) 2016-02-19 03:02 am (UTC)(link)I think a big part of it is just this idea of 'I'm saying what every other politician is scared to say! I'm listening to you!' rhetoric is a BIG part of it. I don't live in the US but in my country we have our own mini-Trump, who's whole career has been based off the same racist, xenophobic, classist shit under the guise of 'The career politicians will tell you you're racist but /I/ don't think you are,'
People see something being represented badly by right-wing media, which makes them thing 'why aren't politicians do anything about this?' and people tell them their racist for falling for the media that is pumping billions of dollars into getting people to fall for that shit, and if one person tells you you're racist and one says you're not, you're gonna go for the second one.
I think that paragraph comes off like I'm excusing this, and I'm definitely not, fuck Donald Trump, but the fact that all a politican had to do was convince a part of the populace that they're the only one listening, and politics as a whole is so out of touch with the layman that that WORKS, makes me pretty angry.
This makes no sense but it's 3am and I'm writing my dissertation and high on coffee.
