Re: Why would anyone not a racist, classist xenophobe vote for Donald Trump?

Because there's a good chance that Trump isn't actually racist, classist, or a xenophobe and is instead just stirring shit. (Note: I don't like Trump, but he's been around forever and has largely been very liberal in the past.)

Trump is exceptionally good at playing the media like chumps and always has been, and one of the surefire ways to keep them talking (while also solidifying his position as a "washington outsider" who's "keeping it real") is by saying outrageous things that he knows will keep the media coverage going. Note that all of the crazy horrible shit he's said has been mostly brief one-off comments and twitter remarks.

Plus I think a lot of them don't really care what he personally believes, just so long as the policies he's endorsing sound good to them and he seems like the kind of guy who'll get those things passed. He's sort of the opposite of Sanders, who's supporters are pushing for him for moral reasons even though there's near 0% chance of any of Bernie's proposals going through.

There's also the factor of him being the first GOP candidate in a long time that isn't some sort of Christian fundamentalist social conservative. That's probably winning him a lot of fans with people who lean more conservative but have been turned off by the GOP's desperate push to inject more Christianity into Washington.

That last paragraph.

I hate Trump's racist shit-stirring, which is going to cause a lot of problems down the line even if he loses the nomination. But he does not fit into the Gingrich Republican mold, and that means he will redefine the boundaries of the party somehow. That may be a good thing for the country.

Or it may be a bad thing, depending.

+1 to most of this, but especially how I don't think Trump is any of those things. I think (if his campaign manages to last longer) he might try to clear the waters a bit but it's not as if his rallies are hours on hours of ripping on the hated-PoC-of-the-week.

I feel so alone sometimes, being the only Trump supporter in F!S. On the flip side, it's nice to be on a more liberal platform -- feels like less of an echo chamber.
