I love sex in all sorts of media for all sorts of reasons (storytelling, smut, whatever) but agree with you about the notion that Jedi were basically space monks. That doesn't mean that people didn't get married or have sex but, ideally they lived chaste lives and devoted themselves to the force. I mean, that's basically what they were modeled after. I think the light side in general is about personal sacrifice and abstaining from things like passionate emotion and about finding equalibrium. A little bit of sacrifice (or a lot) is certainly part of that. I wish more people would take the time to watch Lucas' old documentaries about where he borrowed his ideas from when he conceived of the Jedi.

Even in movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon you have two older warriors who were in love, but never saw it through because they were so devoted to their duties and honor. Mirroring that you have the young romantic pair who jump into a passionate romance. Sacrifice is a huge theme in this movie.
