But...he's not.

Both are pretty integral to his identity, and he acknowledges this. In fact his experience in WW2 is what make him so very obsessed with history repeating when it comes to mutants.

Clearly, with mutants in play, history sort of works out differently, and I can see why "mutant" would be your dominant identity, because superpowers are a much bigger difference than religion or even ethnicity.

As for him not hunting down Mengele. first, we don't know he didn't. Hell, I'm not even sure Mengele exists in this universe.

But say he didn't...that's a slippery slope. What you say is that he basically should have spent the rest of his life murdering old Nazi's. (and you might not see it as murder but legally it would be).

So, is everyone who doesn't kill a Nazi when they can a bad person? Is he different because he is shown to be capable to take a life? I think putting that expectation or responsibility on one person is unreasonable at best.

And fwiw both the comics and the films have had him hunting down Nazis who got away with their crimes.
