How often...

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
do you have nightmares?

I'm trying to figure out of I have an abnormal amount of them, basically.

Quite a lot I think. Can be up to twice a week, depends on how stressed I am. There was a time where it was basically every night.

I rarely remember dream nowadays, but sometimes I do, and I wake up with heart palpitations often enough to know I had bad dreams.

Every few days at least. Had one while I was napping today.

Every night. I am not necessarily a healthy example to compare to though.

Re: How often...

Almost never, but I might be the weird one.

Sometimes I've had them frequently, like at least once a week. Usually chase dreams or dreams where something feels horribly "off". One period I kept dreaming about my teeth shattering and/or falling out. That was when my teeth were really bad IRL and I finally beat my dentist phobia and got a big dental overhaul.

Practically never, but whenever I have a very vivid dream, the feeling it gives me tends to stay for a whole day. It's not so bad when it's a nice dream, but when it's weird or surreal, it can be disorienting.

I think if you have nightmares, even if you're not sure if it's abnormal, you should try to get help if you feel like you could do with it. Maybe try talking to someone about them if you're not sure about talking to a professional immediately?

Never. I think it's been over twenty years since I last had one.

Re: How often...

Very rarely. While I have very vivid dreams and many of them are often weird or surreal, I almost never have dreams that frighten me. I remember a few when I was younger, including one humdinger about an army of bugs marching around my bed, but they don't happen very often.

I am apparently prone to the occasional night terror, though. I don't remember most of them, but I have woken the house up with screaming once or twice, and apparently I almost threw my sister through a bannister once. There's a reason nobody ever touches me to wake me up anymore.

Every night. All I have is nightmares. :( The more stressed I am, the crazier they are.

Not often; I can't remember the last time I had one. However, I don't dream much in general, and when I do the memories slip away from me rather quickly.

Even if I'm super stressed I don't tend to have nightmares, I just sleep less.

If this is hurting your daily life and you have the means, maybe consider seeing a doctor? That sucks, anon. Hope you find a way of stopping them. (Or at least cutting down on the frequency.)

More often than not. I thought that was abnormal too, but looking at this thread, either it's not, or this comm is full of people who have lots of nightmares.

Not very often thankfully and I usually can't remember anything, I just wake up scared but that it not always the case and if I do remember it it'll stick with me and stop me sleeping right for several days.

Several times a week, but I also have PTSD so I'm probably not a good indicator of what the average person is like in this area.

I used to have them at least weekly, if not more frequently. Bad ones, the kind that make you afraid to fall back to sleep OR stay awake.

Nowadays, maybe one a few times a year. That's even with me taking a medication known to induce nightmares.

To be honest, I kind of miss them. Going to sleep used to mean embarking on an adventure!

depends on my overall stress levels and mental health. sometimes I go months without one, maybe even years (I haven't kept track), but I've had 2 or 3 in the past week alone.

Almost never. The last one was probably four or five years ago and I was pretty shaken when I woke up. I dream fairly regularly and every once in a while get sleep paralysis.

I do tend to read and watch a lot of horror--maybe that's why brain doesn't bother with nightmares? I dunno.

Re: How often...

Depends. I usually have a nightmare once every week or two. For the first year and a half after my mom died, I had nightmares every single night (not kidding or exaggerating).

Basically never by many peoples' definitions of "nightmare". I've only had a handful of truly bad dreams and even then they weren't the scary kind - they were when someone died but not necessarily in horrific way. (But I woke up worrying about them.) And that's only happened to me...like three times?

I do sometimes have bad dreams in the sense that they make me feel discombobulated the next day (like a dream about an ex) but they're not necessarily bad when they happen, or if they are, it's not in a nightmarish way. I also have the dreams that many people have about being partly naked in a public place or failing a class that I don't even take but those don't really count as nightmares either.

Occasionally I will fall asleep while listening to music. This causes a specific type of weird dream to manifest, in which it's constantly changing and very, very strange. I call it "channel surfing in hell," though it's not usually nightmarish. I did, however, once do it while listening to Three 6 Mafia. NEVER AGAIN.

Ever since I learned how to control my dreams and how to wake myself up, basically never. I remember a disturbing dream I had several years ago, but that was the most recent one.

Rarely. One or two a year.

That... depends on the definition. I frequently have dreams that could probably be classified as nightmares (horror type stuff and often dreams where I'm getting hunted by something or someone) but I generally find them rather exciting and entertaining. Some time ago, though, I had a dream where I had to kill my brother and I actually woke crying. That was... unpleasant. (And weird because I don't have the best relationship with my brother.)

If I have a dream, it's always a nightmare. Thankfully usually I don't.

Never, but I've never dreamed either.
