Okay, a few things

First, I don't know why some are equating this with a fictional story about murder not being written by a murderer. I mean, I kind of assume most of the readers won't be murderers, whereas I do sort of assume that most readers are some kind of sexual and a lot of them have some experience with sex (and, as I would guess the OP supposes, may be able to judge any sex scene as lacking or not).

I think a better question might be why does a writer need to care about a subject to write it well? There are bunches of things that I don't care about that I would be fine writing about because I have plenty of experience with them and there are other things that I don't care about that I don't know enough about and so would research before writing about.

All that aside, how much does fictional anything have to do with realism? How many sex scenes have a leg cramp or a terrible charley horse? How many have some weird noises? How many have someone being accidentally kicked or elbowed or head-butted? How many have someone finishing way, way before the other person? How many have substances ending up somewhere like the wall or a lampshade or the alarm clock? Unless it's purposely played for comedy, not that many that I've found and that's cool with me. There's only so much realism I want.

And even if you care about something, that isn't going to automatically make you good at writing it.
