EDIT now that I'm done being a facetious asshole: Also the Ace community is not a hivemind and most of them don't demonize sex. IDK what corners of the net you've been in, but you should maybe find new ones.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)As sad above, asexual people are no more a hivemind than any other denomination of sexual attraction (or any other denomination of person for that matter). To say every asexual demonizes sex and couldn't possibly write good smut is stupid.
Plus, unless they're out there with their sexuality, would you even know if you read something written by someone who IDs as asexual?
no subject
okay but you realise being asexual doesn't mean demonising sex, right?

But seriously just because someone doesn't experienced sex or hasn't had a personal experience with it doesn't mean they can't writ about it.
They're not the character having sex.
no subject
C'mon, I assume your stance is coming from a "write what you know' place, but don't you think there's too much badly written erotica to blame it all on 'lack of knowledge or interest in the subject"? Just because you do (or don't do) something in real life doesn't mean you can (or can't) write it well; empathy and storytelling skill (or lack of them) contribute quite a bit.

What about virgins writing smut? Or lesbians writing slash?
no subject
(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)Also, asexuals can read and watch porn. They also have the necessary body parts to do so. It's like saying teenagers, and virgins can't write or draw porn because they've yet to have sex.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)One of my favorite smut fics was written by an author who I later found out is asexual. I was absolutely blown away. But I figure, I've written kidnappings and murders, so why not? Also, I know far too many people who have had sex, but are terrible at writing smut.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)there are some asexual people who have issues and who act like assholes about sex. but they're either young or unsympathetic and unempathic in a way that makes their regular writing unpalatable anyway.

Good writing s good writing.
An asexual person might research and write a good sex scene, just like a pacifist might write a good war novel, or a regular person might write a sociopath character.
My point is: if you won't even read it, how do you know?
If I would read fic by someone and their sex scenes would be bad, and THEN I'd find out they're asexual, yeah, I'd probably think it has to do with each other - but frankly most of the time I know nada about an author's sex life.
Ace porn writers, report!
While I was sick, I got Editor's Choice on Literotica twice. I'm coming out with another story soon.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)1 - Asexual does not mean "doesn't have sex ever". So, an asexual writer can write sex scenes based on experience in the same way that a sexual person can. They can also mimic others' writings about sexual feelings, if necessary, to make the story more complete.
2 - Do you also not read M/M sex scenes written by heterosexual/homosexual/bisexual/pansexual females? Because that's 95% or more of most fandoms. (Bonus Info: Asexual is not a type of sexual orientation.)
3 - How would anyone know that any writer is asexual? I don't know of anyone who would put it in an author's note before a story with smut. They might post about it in a flocked journal but that would presume that you've been following them and reading their other fic, so you must enjoy their writing? I'm so confused.
Also, I would like to direct you to Asexuality.org so that you can better understand the community and the differences on the Asexuality spectrum.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)I have read so much absolutely terrible smut written by "those who care about it", I refuse to believe the average ace author could do worse. On the contrary, authors who are guided by what makes them personally happy in the pants do such a crap job of conveying that feeling to other people so much of the time, I reckon someone who's disinterested actually stands a great chance of doing better.
