Poor kitty! But no one expects a young cat to develop cancer--it's something I'd worry about with my geriatric kitty, William, but with a kitten I would probably figure that she had issues with the taste and texture of the food, and keep trying to find something she liked.

Don't try to eat your feelings: it doesn't work all that well, and eventually leaves you feeling worse--but you knew that. Take a walk in the woods, have some wine (later), talk to a friend, maybe do some housework. Tomorrow have the coffee with milk, and think about giving a donation in kitty's memory to the local animal shelter, or even about volunteering there when you feel you can bear the sight of cats again.

I'm sorry this has happened to you and your cat.
