I'm currently writing my first attempt at dark fic, but interspersed with less dark bits because the premise is a villain pairing plus an added victim they are mostly treating as a prop. So the tone is a bit difficult because the villains are being completely awful to the other character but love each other.

Also, while I read the darkest, most awful fics, somehow writing one is different. Like, I feel very bad for said victim character and want to hug him and write happier fics when I'm done. I feel bad for hurting him. Why is this?

I also get more emotionally involved when I'm writing, as opposed to reading.

I don't know. I guess it feels like I'm sort of personally doing these things to the character? Especially since the fic is from the POV of one of the villains and I'm finding it almost too easy to write from his point of view.

Yeah, dark fic is a mindfuck to write. I'm actually more comfortable writing the villain POV than the victim POV.

Oh, yes, I totally think victim POV would be harder in this case. Because I have the character pretty far gone at this point, to the point of not even knowing his own name and basically just doing what he's told. I'm not even sure how I'd write that as a POV, and I think it would affect me a lot more.
