What are you currently working on now? Having any issues? Or anything else writing related you want to talk about?

Well, i'm editing a fanfiction, probably the longest i've written in years. I don't know where to go next though.

Ooo, good luck with that. It seems like the one I'm working in is going to be my longest one too, though not really that long because I don't really do long-fics. Hope you get lots of positive reviews and kudos.

I'm currently writing my first attempt at dark fic, but interspersed with less dark bits because the premise is a villain pairing plus an added victim they are mostly treating as a prop. So the tone is a bit difficult because the villains are being completely awful to the other character but love each other.

Also, while I read the darkest, most awful fics, somehow writing one is different. Like, I feel very bad for said victim character and want to hug him and write happier fics when I'm done. I feel bad for hurting him. Why is this?

I also get more emotionally involved when I'm writing, as opposed to reading.

I'm writing a Star Wars fanfic, and keep getting more an more ideas (like, do I have to write a sequel also??) and I have NO idea if I'm writing Luke right, i love him but he is really hard to get correct, i feel.

Kudos to you; Star Wars honestly looks hard as hell to write for.

I NEED to be finishing my SW fic before TFA gets too far away. I understand supplementary materials have pretty much jossed it though, and even though I always encourage writers not to give a fuck about that, now that it's happened...I get the angst.

TFA motivated me to write my first fic. It's a great universe to write for!

What should come first - writing or research?

(Context: I'm writing a piece that covers a broad range of eras. In the past, research has actually hindered ideas, but at the same time I don't want to be shallow.)

Re: Writers thread

It really depends? I tend to plot and outline first and then from there figure out areas where I need to research. And then go to writing the actual fic.

I'm still trudging through my Big Bang. I keep wildly misjudging how long a section will take, and I've had the hardest time finding time to write. But, I'm making some steady progress. Now I've been assigned an artist, so I'm in panic mode to finish enough to make sure I can actually finish before my artist wastes her time.

Re: Writers thread

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
So I've noticed most of the reason I get writers block is cause I get bogged down in too much detail. If characters are need to, says, go into a house and fetch another character for something, I will get super bogged down in working out how they get to the house and like, them climbing stairs to get to the characters room or whatever. And of course I grind myself to a halt describing too much and ruining the pacing, and I inevitably have to go back condense shit to get out of the block.

Idk why I'm posting this I've just kinda recently worked out the root of my problem. Anyone else have things they do in writing that mess themselves up?

I'm having a problem about how to foreshadow a plot twist. My POV character has been memory-wiped so she can't remember something about herself that the plot hinges on and I'm not worried about how to set up the reveal itself... I just can't figure out a way to foreshadow it enough so that it doesn't come out of nowhere.

I've been working on a lot of short stories for school, but I also write fanfic as well. Most of my fanfic is Old Hollywood related, so it doesn't get a lot of traffic like my Star Wars fics do. I think I'd die if I got as much attention on my Philadelphia Story fanfic as I did for Star Wars! That's literally the dream.

Still writer's blocking. I wrote half a page the other day of a new chapter. But it was terrible. I think I'll scrap it and try again today.

RL stress is making it really difficult for me to write, which in turn is making me even more stressed because I really need the advance money for this book.

I'm slowly fleshing out a comic that's supposedly for a class project but is quickly spiraling out of control. And how did it end up so much like Star Wars??? Need to change that up a bit.

EDIT: Haha and I just realized this says writers thread. Taking out the purely arty thing but comics still count as writing, kinda, right? XD

I keep having "characters see each other naked and it is awkward and entirely nonsexual" plotbunnies. Mostly leading to accidental tattoo reveals (canon and non-canon tattoos), but with a couple "for lifesaving reasons" ones thrown in. Where is this coming from, brain?

Re: Writers thread

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, just having another bout of being tired of being that author who starts long fanfics and never finishes them, no matter how much they go back to them. I don't want to leave it without a (Completed) but I don't want to rush and give a lame ass ending when the stories deserve better. I've slowed down on a new fic too and I have so much stuff swirling in my mind that I want to get out but I don't know what's stopping me. I don't have writer's block, I have severe constipation of writing, or expression, or something. And I know just whining about that much isn't going to fix it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
I know it is late, but I am thinking about drawing illustrations for some of my fic. Do you think this is an ok thing to do? Sometimes I get stuck and don't know what to draw for my characters.

Aaaaaahahahahah! My master's thesis. Having trouble with the damn basics, the roundup of previous research. I'm great at analyzing but presentng? not so much. Urgh. Gonna translate some more. Found some great references to Ariadne and Dionysos in the text that no one ever noticed before so yay me I guess.
