Depending on how many people you follow, it's easy to miss things. I only follow a handful of people, so it doesn't take me long to get caught up after being away for a week. Someone else might follow a couple of hundred blogs, so they don't bother to go back and look at what they missed, assuming that they'll catch anything interesting upon reblog.

Yea, this. Not that I even see this kind of thing on my dash, but it does make sense to me.

Back when I was newer to tumblr and followed only a small group of people, I could catch up with my dash easily enough. Now it would be impossible. I'd have to spend all day on tumblr to be able to see everything, and ain't nobody got time for that.
