So what's going on in yours?

We're finishing up Fluffy February. Will be starting Morbid March and then onto Angsty April. Not sure how long we're going to keep this up. But it has been fun so far. Just laid back themes that keep the new content and discussions coming.

Someone who follows me on tumblr actually recognized me from a completely different site I wrote fanfiction on 7 years ago under a different name. That was kind of cool, in a 'small world' kind of way.

Wolf 359 started its new season! So I am super excited about that. The first episode was a bit anti-climatic but I can't wait for the action to pick up.

Are the Hamilton people still angry about the bootleg?

[personal profile] chardmonster 2016-02-24 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I have the bootleg because there's no damn way I can see the play and it's actually relevant to my work.

There are good reasons not to watch bootlegs, but Broadway fans who will watch bootlegs of absolutely everything are writing these really really long screeds about how you should never ever watch the Hamilton bootleg because
1. The creator asked us not to!
2. You can get a ticket in the lottery!
3. Just save up for it!

The first being silly considering, again, they will watch a bootleg of everyfuckingthing else, the second being silly because that requires not only getting to NYC but hanging around on the SMALL CHANCE you MIGHT get a ticket, and the third is just insulting. Tickets are going for over $400 for a goddamn mezzanine seat. No, most people can't afford that you ninny. A couple years from now it'll be as accessible as every other play running, but it won't have the original cast. I'd jump at the chance to see Wicked, but I still have the bootleg with the original cast because that's interesting to see.

I kind of agree with you on the Hamilton ticket issues. I live near NYC, so for most of my friends they could go any day IF THEY COULD ONLY GET TICKETS. They try constantly and it's just not happening.

I don't get it (but I'm also not super into Broadway) but it's crazy to expect people to see it when they just honestly can't.

Well, here's the thing.

Some dorks are rich! Or have rich parents.

And some dorks aren't rich but spend their money really, really stupidly.

So yeah, they can't understand why people won't pay for tickets to the most expensive show in one of the nation's most expensive cities.

lmao. as someone who's travelled all the way to NYC solely to see a broadway show (and has paid way, way too much money for tickets before), that sounds 100% ridiculous and they should get over themselves.

The lottery is online now, fyi. You still have to be fairly close to actually get there, but at least you won't have to wait outside the theatre anymore.

Heh, I was just talking about this IRL as well, and I agree with you. Many people believe that theatre bootlegs are a significantly lesser evil than those of films, etc. because they capture live performances that are quite simply impossible to get to for most people. My code is basically:

-Most importantly, the viewer monetarily supports theatre in other forms. Anyone with the Hamilton bootleg should have bought the album. If Broadway is inaccessible, sees theatre in their community.
-The bootlegger is unobtrusive and doesn't bother the patrons around them.
-No/little money is exchanged for tapes. Covering costs/shipping only, not wholescale profit operations; ideally 1-for-1 trading is the way to go.

While I don't have strong feelings about bootlegs one way or the other, people aren't entitled to see any form of media. No one has the "right" to see Hamilton whether they can afford to or not. I mean, watch bootlegs by all means, but people need to just admit it's shitty rather than justifying it via entitlement.

I think mostly LMM is upset (cause he is the creator so like, okay, I don't necessarily agree but I can see why he'd feel that way) and people are urging people to be quieter about it since he is very active about participating with the fanbase and people don't want to lose that?

Idk though that is all I have seen, doesn't mean that's all there is. Personally I barely knew there was a bootleg and really want it :/

I know this feel. ALL OF MY FANDOMS.

(Now I am compelled to do that for Transformers RID2015.)

I am a Homestuck fan. You have all of my sympathy.

What's with Steven Universe and its odd airing schedule, anyway? It's something I'd like to watch sometime but I am suuuuuuper lazy when it comes to watching TV.

Re: Steven Universe

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
You can buy the first two seasons of it on iTunes for forty bucks.

Re: Steven Universe

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
cartoon network makes weird scheduling decisions sometimes. on their tumblr, one of the show's creators implied that even he wasn't sure why they air it the way they do since the people involved with the show have no say in when it's aired.

People have a thing about backpack clips, apparentl.

Re: Fandom

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
What is a "backpack clip" in fandom context? Is it the 3-prong buckle, or is it a carabiner (D-clip)? Or is it something else entirely??

Re: Fandom

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2016-02-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
No, it refers to the actual Civil War trailer, in which Bucky Barnes wears a backpack with a clip (a literal one) and fandom seems strangely invested in it.

Mostly just waiting for more Civil War footage, though I'll be fine if we don't get any more tbh. I don't want to see the whole movie before I watch it in the cinema.

Waiting for the newest OVA to come out in the OPM side of things, and any news of a second season.

Otherwise my fandoms are quiet or old so not much is going on.

Reylo and anti-reylo has exploded. I can't stop reading about it, but frankly I'd rather just stick to drawing silly pictures. I feel like talking about what happened here will just draw negative attention to it. At least I have my other ships to keep my occupied should it start to get too crazy.

Gravity Falls had it's last episode this month, so fandom is going through the stages of we had a good finale but no more new content*.

*Maybe.
