Sadly, you're right.

I've re-read Harry Potter fanfics I thought were as good as the books themselves when I read them at fifteen. Now? They're... okay. Not awful, but pretty mediocre.

In fact, I only just recently came across a fanfic that I actually enjoyed. And even that one had a lot of flaws, but it was engaging enough that I can look past them.

And besides the actual age, there's the experience. With time, the things you see or do (or read) for the first time get fewer. You find out a lot of things are just variations on other things.

Okay, two things:

1. It seems like you genuinely didn't mean to be a jerk with this, but do you realize how insulting this is to people who aren't young, naive, daft, or uneducated, and who still feel that magic? I will tell you: it's quite insulting.

2. When you say hormones, do you mean what most people mean when they say hormones - i.e. horny sexytiem hormones? Or do you mean neurochemicals in the broader sense? Because the former strikes me as dismissive and overly simplistic, but the latter I would have to agree with. That is, people who love fanfic love it because their brains respond in ways that make them feel good when they read it. (Not that that's saying much, since that's basically the reason why we love anything we love.)
