Oh. I honestly know very little about the fandom other than that rape was involved. That still sounds kind of icky, though.

Oh, it was icky as hell. But the child wasn't conceived through rape. He's still a terrible person.

Okay. Didn't know that. Knew about the rape (not that it was just attempted), and knew that she was his daughter, so just assumed.

Honestly don't think I ever want to watch this movie (or read the comic) if they are portraying a consensual relationship between two people after one tries to rape the other. Ugh.

I interpreted it as her having consensual sex with him later as a way to get her power back. I'm not sure if that was what it was, but that was my interpretation.

It was more of a one-time thing than an actual relationship, and she doesn't let him see the daughter afterwards.

Also, he dies in the beginning of the story and only shows up in some flashbacks, so while he's an important character he doesn't appear in a lot of the story and the relationship with the mother is only brought up a few times.

It's a plot point. The character who's atheist god literally finds faith again at the thought that this somehow happened.

One of watchmen's themes was that unlike the comics it was deconstructing, nothing's ever very simple.

Okay, thanks.

If you don't know the canon, why the fuck do you comment as if you do until someone corrects you?
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-02-25 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Because I thought I knew? I knew about the rape, I knew she was his daughter, so I drew a fairly logical conclusion. Also, I spent 6 hours today taking an exam on 2 hours of sleep and I'm tired. So I commented hastily. Sorry.

Why can't you just ask "can someone clarify what happened?" before you open your mouth?

We're talking about a comic book, it's not a big deal

You are really angry about this and it's not actually that big of a deal. There's no need to be rude.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2016-02-25 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you think I'm angry? Haven't you been here for the "Just because I have a filthy mouth, doesn't mean I'm mad!" threads that so many people were all "right on!" over?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Because right now you're coming at philstar like a crotch terrier despite the fact she apologized for her error. You should have dropped it right then instead of following it with another rude question.

If you're not angry, then I feel sorry for anyone who really pisses you off.

An apology is pretty useless without an indication that the behavior won't be repeated, though. And let's be real, it wasn't much of an apology.
