(Anonymous) 2016-02-25 09:45 am (UTC)(link)The dynamics of their relationship felt so interesting and real, though. In some ways they often seemed like kid siblings, though not in an incesty way. Just that their relationship was so volatile but at the same time so durable; they could hate each other bitterly and still love each other, and it was fucked up, but at the same time it felt natural for them to be that way about each other.
I usually have no patience for fucked up fictional relationships, but with Kara and Lee it was often most obvious that they loved each other when they were fighting. And the characters were so well written and strong that it made sense why they were the way they were with each other.

And maybe that's why they could never work as a romantic pairing? Not because it's actually incestuous (though you could have a case to call them actual step-siblings), but because there's that strong sibling aspect in their dynamic (competitive, bickery, both wishing for dad's approval, deep unconditional love for each other when it counts etc.) and when they try to break out of that and be romancey they just don't know what the hell they're doing?
