I loved it! Sam and Dean would totally swear like this if they weren't on network TV.

It bothers me so much that TV characters don't swear like they should because they totally would in situations that call for it. At least fic rectifies that.

this was basically my favorite episode of the series, because it was so different from usual and still remained true to the characters.

this episode, and the groundhog day one. those were the days.

Yes! If i were being attacked by a vengeful ghost, you're damn right i'd swear!

It's been a long time since I watched this episode (or much of this show really) but I kind of feel like he did that so they couldn't use the footage?

I'd never considered this but lol, possibly.

IDK, I liked it because it seemed like the writing implying that they would cuss a lot more if you could just bleep it out on network tv.

I always took it as that's how they normally were and the other episodes (ie, the rest of the show) are someone else telling the story to another person/other people so it's more cleaned up.

The episodes are Chuck's versions! Whoo!

Pretty sure this was an homage to The X Files'Jose Chung's From Outer Space.

Sam amd Dean are pretty much the only characters who can swear in fics or things like this without it bothering me. Because clearly they wouldn't be using the sanitized versions of the words tjey use if the weren't on tv.

Yeah, I have no problem imagining either one of them swearing up a storm. Doesn't seem OOC at all.

I thought it was just confirmation that they definitely swear a lot but they never show it because network tv. Honestly, it never made sense to me that they don't swear. I know that they're on network tv but those two characters definitely swear.

I loved the little 'bleep' skulls on this ep, because it only confirmed what I already knew - the boys swear all the time! Who wouldn't? Beset by ghosts, werewolves, demons, manipulative angels...of course they swear!

(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
i actually thought it was really hot when he cursed. dayum. even if it was bleeped.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My imagination went immediately to sexyfuntimes cursing.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think there are a lot of characters who would swear like bikers and sailors if their networks would let them.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
nah, that's why I liked it to be honest. I always had a feeling Dean would swear a lot (Sam, on the other hand, swears a little) - in constant life-or-death situations, people are gonna swear. In shock or fear or relief or adrenaline, it happens all the time. Ask anyone who's ever been in the military.

the reason this was the only episode that showed it is because it was the only one that went with that reality-tv style, and reality tv shows are littered with beeped-out cursing. Supernatural is meta as fuck - the fourth wall is like constructed out of paper at this point. And this was just another way they fucked around with it: the characters don't know they're characters in a tv show, they're not Deadpool. but this episode was the Ghostfacers essentially shooting a pilot for the show they wanted to make, so through that lens we got to see what Sam and Dean would have been more like if Supernatural were a different style of show.
