My sense of episode was that the *show* very much acknowledged that he was raped, and traumatized by it, even though none of the other characters really did. But yeah, it was hard to watch, and the non-DNA verification of the finger was super dumb. She could have still survived and been released with nine fingers, guys. It's not like the ~artist~ actually gave a shit about hurting people.

To be fair, matching DNA takes a while and they were on a time constraint.

The culprit was a man and the girl whose finger it was supposed to be was a beautiful celebrity on her way to an event. They couldn't tell a man's finger from a woman's? Looked closely at the hair on it? Looked to see if the nail had polished or was manicured? It seemed the "artist" could have sent in half a hot dog with ketchup on the end and saved his finger with all that they did with it.

I think you may have an overly optimistic concept of how tidy and therefore easily identifiable an amputated finger might look. Given the context and the risk, it's not unreasonable to want to err on the side of caution and assume that you can't just toss it out and go "Pfffffffttttt no way that's the finger of a princess" when an actual person's life is at stake.

He literally gift wrapped it.
