(Anonymous) 2008-03-08 01:29 am (UTC)(link)Just because YOU think it's in common use because the circles YOU run in use it, doesn't mean the rest of the world needs to get stuck with your made up words.
1) It isn't common in the circles I run in; I don't RP.
2) Tell that to J.K. Rowling about Muggles, then, why don't you? Honestly, how do you think words, and new meanings of words, enter common usage and eventually the dictionary? Because people do exactly this sort of thing. That's just how the English language works.

Either way, those make a modicum of sense. To mode does not.

You have a point there. I mean, it really doesn't matter that "dragon" and "harpy" and "elf" and "leviathan" and "cyclops" and "gorgon" and "pegasus" and "unicorn" and "behemoth" and "phoenix" and "siren" and-- oh yeah, "mentor" was originally from a fantasy book, too. But stuff made up for fantasy doesn't matter, right?
