Um... actually (http://i25.tinypic.com/7130o9.png), yes (http://i32.tinypic.com/2czq6tu.png). (Well, "computer" hasn't been around long enough to gain status as a verb itself, but I'm sure that's at least partially because it, unlike the other two, has the "-er" morpheme specifically marking it as a noun, which makes it less susceptible to that sort of usage.)

Just because YOU think it's in common use because the circles YOU run in use it, doesn't mean the rest of the world needs to get stuck with your made up words.

1) It isn't common in the circles I run in; I don't RP.
2) Tell that to J.K. Rowling about Muggles, then, why don't you? Honestly, how do you think words, and new meanings of words, enter common usage and eventually the dictionary? Because people do exactly this sort of thing. That's just how the English language works.

Is there any particular reason we have to link to pictures of the dictionary instead of the actual dictionary? -_-

Either way, those make a modicum of sense. To mode does not.

Comparing a fantasy word made up for a fantasy book is like comparing apples to cats.

*shrug* You're more than welcome to search it yourself at http://oed.com/ if you have access. Thing is, most people don't; thus the pictures. It's a pity they feel the need to keep such a wonderfully comprehensive dictionary shut off from public access like that, but there's no more trustworthy source.

On its own, no, "mode" doesn't make much sense. But even in noun form, "mode" inevitably has a modifier of some sort (whether we're talking "combat mode" or "mode of expression"), and never stands on its o--

Oh, wait. Never mind (http://i25.tinypic.com/15hycno.png). Rare/obsolete since the seventeenth century, though; that certainly explains why it doesn't make sense to us modern English speakers, doesn't it?

Comparing a fantasy word made up for a fantasy book is like comparing apples to cats.

You have a point there. I mean, it really doesn't matter that "dragon" and "harpy" and "elf" and "leviathan" and "cyclops" and "gorgon" and "pegasus" and "unicorn" and "behemoth" and "phoenix" and "siren" and-- oh yeah, "mentor" was originally from a fantasy book, too. But stuff made up for fantasy doesn't matter, right?
