Ship wars have always been super irritating and it's always been something I wish fandom took less seriously.

I have friends who told me they would lose followers if they admitted to liking a ship (not even disrespecting other ships, just stating that they LIKE something), that is just downright ridiculous to me.

No kidding. I mean, friendly banter is one thing. Explaining why you prefer a ship or dislike a ship is fine. But you'd think it was like liberals vs conservatives or something, people go nuts. Who gives a shit who wanks to what?

I am afraid that even admitting to drawing a commission for a ship (Destiel) will lost me some (Wincest) followers

Yeah, I find that absurd, too. I'm very much a "ship and let ship" sort of person. If there's a pairing I don't care for, then I'll...just go focus on the ones I do like and let the people who ship that other pairing go have their fun. Pretty simple. I do not get people attacking others over what fictional characters they want to see get together. Of all the things to fight over, seriously...

I've been called sexist for mentioning that I didn't ship a certain canon het ship, even though I also said that I liked both of the characters in it.

I've seen a lot of people demand someone else's reasons for not liking things, and then pick them apart for anything even slightly "problematic" so they can then dismiss that person as sexist, racist, homophobic, etc.

I'd be pretty happy to lose those followers. Don't need ridiculous people in my life.

I had a friend from a non-HP fandom, and when she found out I was a R/Her shipper, she made a bitchy thinly veiled rant about how I was wrong to not ship H/Her in one of her Myspace notes, and then we stopped being friends. It was more I was trying to make nice but she just chose to ignore me, so I had no choice but to be like, "OK."

Is this a comment from 2006?
