I don't think the shippers were better back then. It's just that people don't really make fun of crazy shippers any more. IDK why.

Maybe it's because of the trigger warnings and stuff that came up around the same time. I mean the line between making fun of rabid shippers an bullying is probably to vague for tumblr.

tumblr fandom phrases things way differently than LJ/DW fandom did. Now making fun of shippers is BULLYING AND BEING A PEDOPHILE TO MENTALLY ILL TRANS LGBT TEENS.

Nowadays the teens will attack tags, harass people, dox them, but if you so much tell them to shut up they have panic attacks, go "Im 14!! You're silencing me!" Then they act like they're The Hand Of God for telling you your paring is bad because of some bullshit like "Rey is a lesbian!" Really? You don't say. The canon certainly didn't.

The kind of large scale mocking that FW used to be can't go on in this sort of hyperbolic atmosphere. I say we banish the diperlings to the kiddie pool and make our own safe space without children who feel the need to police shit to make themselves feel better about themselves.
