One short story that happens to be about three white guys is not bad. There's nothing bad about a story that's just about white guys. When thousands and thousands of stories are being published in various media and they're ALL about white guys, it's problematic. It's a very good, very useful term.
It is not a catch all for "the canon dynamics of these two people have a greater possibility of unhealthy interpretations in fanworks."
Sheesh, you're one of those people who want to pop up with disclaimers that Hannibal fans need to put tons of disclaimers that romanticizing cannibalism is ~*PrObLaMaTiC*~ and Hannibal should not be allowed to depict eating people as appealing.

I've seen it used colloquially to refer to pairings that have issues. Including, if I recall correctly, the anon I was speaking to. You can't really blame me for using a term the same way as other people in the discussion. I'm not saying your definition is wrong, I'm just saying it's got a colloquial use that I was following. I'll choose my words more carefully in the future, but that doesn't mean the rest of your comment is condescending and baseless.

Hahahahafuckno. I wrote a Hannibal fic where Will bashed someone's head in repeatedly and then he and Hannibal fed the corpse to their friends. Seriously, don't make stupid assumptions because I used ONE WORD in a manner you did not like.

Yes, of course. And no one (At least in this thread) is saying 'No you can't ship that because it's wrong!' But if someone came up to me and said 'I love Hannigram, Hannibal is always looking out for Will and I wish I had a boyfriend just like him' I would be VERY CONCERNED about that person's well-being, even though I also love Hannigram. I would not tell them 'You can't ship that, you're doing it wrong' but I WOULD want to talk to them about how Hannibal is not a nice man and they should not date him IRL. That's all that's going on here.

Ok, so now people are writing a coffeeshop AU where Snape and Hermione are both college students and fall in love and it's sappy and mushy and sweet. Is that problematic? I mean probably OOC sure, but if people like it and get off on it? Are they problematic?
Policing fandom with buzzwords and concern trolling just gets really really old really fast. Some people want xenokink egg depositing dubcon from their favorite characters, and some people want to see hated enemies as friends falling in love over coffee. It's weird and wonderful.
