Re: AO3

I write super dank nasty dark fic that's very popular on kink memes and stuff but the way fandom is these days makes me think I'd be crucified, or at least considered very "problematic" if I were to post it somewhere non-anon like AO3.

Is that a valid worry or is AO3 not like that in general?

Ao3 is pretty friendly to nasty dark fic. If you get crucified over it, it'll most likely happen on Tumblr.

honestly, it depends on the fandom. if it's something like supernatural, for example, then I doubt you'll encounter any trouble.

honestly, I would just make sure that you tag the fic properly and you'll hopefully be okay. you can also turn off anon commenting so that people will at least have to use their username if they want to start shit.

sa

for some reason it bothers me that I used "honestly" at the beginning of two sentences in that comment

Haha yes, with Supernatural though I suppose given the stuff that CANONICALLY happened to Sam and Dean in hell, it's kind of hard for anyone to get too worked up about it in fanfic.

I don't think anyone one Ao3 would care. Depending on how large the fandom is, you may just get a bunch of kudos for that. I don't socialize much on there, but I think people are just enthusiastic for more smut. :)

I think OP will probably be okay, but there are definitely people on there who care. I've seen more than a few people get so dogpiled for writing "problematic" fic that they get cowed into taking the fic down and issue an unnecessary public apology for it on their tumblr. I'm not saying that this is at all likely to happen to OP but that's an unfortunate reality of fandom. Some fandoms are much less trigger happy than others, however.

OP, if you're truly anxious about posting your fic, then you could always make another account (if you already have one anyway) especially for your "problematic" fic and keep it unconnected from any other online persona you have. You could also "orphan" the fic.
