(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 12:01 am (UTC)(link)If I was a writer writing fic for a show I loved and someone came in to go on about how my fic was superior and then trash the show I was writing it for, I'd be a little peeved. Like I appreciate a compliment but when it comes with a side of "the show you're writing for is such garbage" I'm not really flattered.
It's one thing if they're just criticizing. But when they're putting down the show, that's annoying.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 12:25 am (UTC)(link)But sometimes some of their rants have nothing to do with the fic in question they're reviewing, and they're just going off on random tangents that have zero relevance to the story they're commenting on. If someone really wants to complain about a show as a whole, there's plenty of other places they can go to do so. It seems pointless to dump their non-story related gripes into a fic review.
Plus, by doing that, they're making presumptions that I or other people who read the story/see the comments might agree with their rant somehow, too. Which is also annoying.
Sometimes I'll read a story and say something like, "I wish we could've had a scene like this in the show" or "This would've been a perfect add-on to x episode." in my reviews. I feel that's a good way to express a desire about something that would've added to my enjoyment of an episode of a show (whether I already liked the episode in question or not), and it's also a compliment to the writer, if I feel their story was so good as to be worthy of being part of the actual canon.
