It's really hard to write a thrilling mystery. I'm writing a casefic now, and I know how the story ends, who the real villain is and what their plan is; but I have no idea how to write my characters journey interesting. So far I've got "have them suspect the wrong person" and "be in the wrong location" neither of which is particularly thrilling.

I want to write a page-turned, damnit!

Is anything at stake for the main character? Danger to themselves or someone they care about? Or is there something they need to learn about themselves or confront about someone else? Those things can add some pretty intense elements. (FWIW I prefer character growth to pure peril, but that's just me.) ^^ Best of luck!

Yes, actually on all those questions!

I will take your advice to heart and focus on those elements. Thank you!
