Not trying to pick on you, OP, but it annoys me when people act like it's a total crack ship with no basis in canon whatsoever, which just isn't true. Emily pined after her for years, and then they finally had a one night stand or whatever it was, so it's not like it's completely impossible.

Yes, Ali's always been manipulative and used Emily's feelings against her, but that's not really out of the ordinary for love interests on this show. There's the stalker pedophile teacher, and even Paige, who it seems most people loved, TRIED TO DROWN Emily.

Honestly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Emison was endgame. Do I think it's a healthy relationship or that Alison is someone who's good for Emily? No, not at all, but most of the romances on this show are fucked up, so it's pretty much just par for the course.

Man, I'd love for Emison to be endgame. That ship pushes all my buttons, especially BECAUSE you never know how genuine Ali is in any given moment, even to the point where you're not sure if she herself knows because her life has always been lies. I love that one of them is this fountain of goodness and one is shady as fuck but still fiercely protective/possessive. So, you can ship them without viewing them through a rose-colored lens. And yes, PLL is all shades of gray, anyway.

I ultimately want Emily to be happy and if Paige came back I'd be fine with it, but Emison, man.

I would like it, too, for the same reasons. I like that Ali's a complicated character, and like you said, you never exactly know what she's thinking or what her true motives are. It's not some happy, sunshiney relationship, but it's fun to watch. Ali's had such a fucked up life, I agree with you, I don't think she even knows who she really is, which is why I think she was quick to agree to marry the doctor, because she feels like that's some semblance of "normal", which she's never had. And that, especially contrasted with Emily's just pure goodness and her loyalty and willingness to always be there for Ali no matter what, is just a really interesting dynamic to watch.

So, yeah...even though there's a tiny part of my brain that crackships Emily/Hanna (or at least used to; Hanna's been getting on my nerves since the time jump), realistically I'd prefer endgame Emison to pretty much any other Emily pairing.
