Re: Characters you love to read about but not in ships

Martha Jones. Love her but I don't really ship her with anyone.

Wanda Maximov from the MCU. Don't ship her with anyone, at least not yet, but she's one of my favorites.

Kathryn Janeway. Don't ship her with anyone but she's my favorite Voyager character and I really enjoy it when I find gen fics for her.

Eowyn. I like canon just fine, but I'm not really interested in reading Eowyn/Faramir fics. But I do love gen fics about her.

Gandalf. I'm really interested in the Maiar in general. But I don't ship him with anyone.

Tar-Miriel. She's really interesting to me and I wish there were more Numenor fics from her perspective.

I like Tar-Miriel too. What do you headcanon her personality as?

I think she's complicated because I think she hated her husband and the situation she was forced into. And probably hated Sauron and was disgusted by the sacrifices. But at the same time she wasn't fully one of the faithful. I think she just went along with what was going on and hoped that she could survive it and maybe get a better situation for herself in the end.

So, do you think she was passive or did she argue with her husband (was it abusive) or something else?

I find there are many different ways to take her character and they're all fascinating but also really divergent in what she would be doing on any given day.

(Personally, I think she was one of the Faithful, following her dad's footsteps, and secretly spying on her husband for the Faithful, but that was all she had the power to do. It makes for a really precarious position for her.)

I think she was smart. I think she fought back as much as she could, in little ways. But I think she knew when she could fight and when she had to play along and go along with it. I think she knew how to play Ar-Pharazon enough so that he wasn't really abusive. And honestly I don't think he cared about her that much. Ignored her more than anything else. She was a means to an end for him, he wasn't actually interested in her.

I could see her as a spy for the Faithful. Never really thought about it. Though I personally think it would be more about fighting back against Ar-Pharazon a little rather than really about being part of the Faithful.

Tolkein just seemed to sort of throw Eowyn and Faramir together IMHO.
