Re: Your Local Magic School
(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 02:50 am (UTC)(link)During the 19th century, English wizard settlers founded their own hedge-schools in the various population centres. Meanwhile, the Aboriginals continued the same traditions of one-on-one tutoring and students travelling to different tribes to share knowledge and techniques that they'd been practising for the last 60,000 years.
During the 20th century, the governments of both the magical and non-magical anglos decided that those silly aboriginals couldn't be trusted with their own kids, so they took black kids and locked them up in badly-funded, badly-run facilites where abuse was endemic and literally no-one wanted to be there (except the pedos).
Eventually, the non-magical government was convinced that stealing people's children on the basis of their skin tone, allowing them to be abused for years, and trying really hard to wipe out their cultures was maybe a
supervillan plotbad idea; and they stopped, mostly.Going by the way the wizarding world (as Rowling presents it) is pretty consistently behind the non-magical world on all possible points, though, they're probably still at it.
:D
Re: Your Local Magic School
Though I agree with your assessment of treating Aboriginals.
