I always feel like a bit of a loner in this fandom, because [Clone Syaoran] is my favourite character, and I hate [Original Syaoran]. In this fandom, if you have the gall to favour a Syaoran over Kurogane or Fai than it's either love them both or only like R!Syaoran.

All I have to say is that anatomy is atrocious. He looks like Slenderman: The Bishounen Years.

It's CLAMP, all their manga is extremely stylized. You just have to sort of expect that the anatomy won't make any sense when you read one of their titles.

And that someone's going to lose an eye. I used to have an icon that said, "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. And then it's a Clamp manga."

I always preferred the "then it's a yaoi pairing" myself. Exchanging rings is so overrated, go with an eye instead CLAMP pairings!

All I have to add here is that I'm really sad they stopped doing their MKR style for things. I LOVED that line work SO MUCH. So many variations of line thickness and dear GOD did I love the eye style in that manga series...

It's even better when their style gets simplified for animation and there isn't any of the pretty swooshy shoujo embellishments to distract from it:

Man it's been a long time since I read this series. I don't remember having any particularly negative feelings towards original!Syaoran, but admittedly I was so damn confused by the end (honestly not sure if I ever got to the actual end tbh, I was reading scanlations) that I had no idea what my feelings were about anything in TRC anymore.

OP here.

Some of my reasons are kind of petty, but for starters I started to really resent him when the fandom treated him like he was great and awesome (when I found him really bland, like his backstory and such just bored me) but Cloney was a complete evil monster who ate Fai's eye. And I kind of blame him a little bit for the fact that he spent a good portion of the series terrifying Cloney and even trying to strangle him without any indication that the clone was going to do anything evil. But it's mostly the 'he's extremely bland and yet everyone (including the story) makes it seem like we should love him completely without giving any decent character development beyond pushing the plot forward'.
