Is it just me, or are people who think adults are mature, immature?

Adults of all ages are not "mature" in the least. Are you kidding? Have you met people?

There seems to be some context missing here. Like, are people just going around telling you, "Them adults, aren't they so mature?" or is it, "That woman is mature, she's an adult," or is it even, "This is mature subject matter, only for adults."

In reference to secret 13.

If someone is being immature, they must be a child!

Nope. Adults are plenty immature. Have they met adults? People are not acting like 5 year olds, they are acting like adults on the internet because that's how adults are.

Is it just me or is "mature" a completely irrelevant label to begin with?

In terms of personality I'd tend to agree with you. As a physical descriptor, it's useful

Well, I meant as a personality descriptor.

I guess it depends on how you define "mature". If 90% of adults are the same in a certain way, I'd argue they're mature in that way since that's apparently how adult humans are. "Mature" doesn't mean philosophical or righteous or serious or prudent - it means "exhibiting the characteristics typical of an adult".

Different terminology but we're in agreement about that. But people use "mature" to mean calm, serious, rational and not self-centered and ho boy are adults - or people as a whole - not generally so.

I got into a huge argument with someone a long while back over the nude painting cards in the original Witcher that you got as "trophies" after you banged one of the female characters. The original US version of the game censored these paintings; the re-release didn't. He swore up and down that the Witcher was more "mature" than other games 'cuz racism or something; I pointed out the nude cards and he started screaming about moralizing. I dunno where he is now, but I hope he's miserable.

Nah, they're just uptight. So much that they could snap your finger right off.
