In my 20 odd years pre transition, I've seen some real shit in the women's restroom. Like, literal shit in the middle of the floor.

On average the only thing different about the men's room is that the counter is significantly more likely to be completely covered with water and you have a slightly increased chance of urine on the seat. But REALLY not as much as you'd presume, since cis girls do that hover and pee bullshit.

Otherwise they're about the same in terms of cleanliness, and I use public restrooms a whole hell of a lot.

God yes. And there is no logic in doing so. Avoiding germs? Everything in the stall is already germ-laden anyway due to repeated flushing.

I can honestly say that if I ever shit on the floor it's because I didn't make it to a toilet in time, or there just wasn't one around! I would never intentionally shit on the floor.

I've never seen literal shit, but hoverers are awful.

Having worked in a fast food place where I had to clean both bathrooms, the men's was usually smellier, if not visibly dirtier.

There's a fanfic I read recently where one of the characters comes out of a bathroom looking "haunted" and says something like "literally every surface in there was wet," and I could totally picture that, haha.

I've seen it on the walls once too. Like... I realize a lot of people don't actually use public restrooms a lot, but I kind of ...have a condition where I wind up having to, in both the best and worst places.

And let me tell you, having seen the entire gamut of good to bad in both gendered areas, there's no "better" option. If the establishment is good, the restrooms will be cleanish. If it's bad though, God save you.

I went on a vacation to a third-world country for the holidays and part of my tour group was middle-aged unashamed hoverers who were super proud of having come up with the idea of peeing while not touching the seat. Cue me having to use the toilet paper I had paid for to wipe the seat so I didn't get someone else's piss all over my lower body. Thanks, assholes.
