Re: Social things you're supposed to like, but don't

Talking about celebrities. 90% of the time I don't care, and about half of the rest of the time it's a distant fascination, like looking at a display of exotic animals that I actually know nothing about.

Also, heavy drinking. Never been drunk, and don't care to be, thanks. I can tolerate other drunk people if they're not obnoxious or angry drunks, but many of them are. I have no desire to get drunk. Many people in my age bracket talk about it like it's just a thing everyone does and totally take it for granted.

It's sad how hard it is for people to deal with the fact that you don't find getting drunk fun. As well as how awkward it makes social activities.

My not caring about celebrities has made it hard for me to join show-based fandoms, unfortunately. :/

Me: How about last episode?

Everyone else: How about pictures of cast on the red carpet! :D :D

Sigh. I don't care. Honestly, half the time I don't even know the names of who plays whom on my shows. I don't see actors, I see characters.

Fortunately for me most of my close friends/family also drink only lightly or not at all and I have enough nerdy friends to do social activities on a regular basis that don't involve getting drunk. :) I do wish I could go to parties more, but sadly there aren't very many that aren't of the "get waaaasted" variety and most people I know don't care for them. I guess it's a trade off but imo it's worth it.

I feel you on seeing characters over actors, but since 90% of my fandoms are for things other than live action shows/movies I guess I don't have that issue as much.

AYRT - Yeah, and it's the opposite for me, which is why I think it's extra jarring. I was actually kind of nasty about it in the first fandom that happened with, which I regret now - but I seriously didn't realize focusing on celebrities was the norm and kept saying "isn't this a little OT?" :/

(Also I was flunking classes in college and miserable and bitchy because of that, but.)
