Social things you're supposed to like, but don't

Or are particular about, making liking a challenge.

How are you "supposed to" like that?

Gossiping and speculate about other people. God, I hate lunch break...

Yeah. Gossip's the worst. And there's always a chance the person will find out. (So good for you for not reciprocating, at least!)

- Any event that involves just sitting. I don't care if I'm sitting with my ten favorite people, we are going to run out of things to talk about very quickly and the rest of the night's awkward because you can't even check your phone politely.

- Weddings. Partly for the above reason, partly because the ceremony's often dull and you never actually see the bride and groom.

- I like Christmas, but I feel like every year people just complain that Aunt Ruthie's pie wasn't as good this year and wasn't it so much better in 1995, when we all lived in Maine, which was just a better place to be? (I get it, but that was twenty years ago last Christmas.)

Workplace ~bonding~ exercises. I hate the fuckstains I work with, the last thing I wanna do is play fucking mini golf with them. God.

This. I'll be polite and pleasant to my coworkers at work because, you know, I have to work with them and a hostile environment's no help to anyone.

But like hell do I want to hang out with most of those people during my time off.

Talking about celebrities. 90% of the time I don't care, and about half of the rest of the time it's a distant fascination, like looking at a display of exotic animals that I actually know nothing about.

Also, heavy drinking. Never been drunk, and don't care to be, thanks. I can tolerate other drunk people if they're not obnoxious or angry drunks, but many of them are. I have no desire to get drunk. Many people in my age bracket talk about it like it's just a thing everyone does and totally take it for granted.

Wine. Apparently I am the only woman in her 20s who finds wine unpleasant. Granted I also find most other alcohol* unpleasant, because the taste is bitter and nasty to me, but it seems like every woman around my age is super into drinking wine as their social beverage of choice and I just cannot stand the stuff.

*except stuff like wine coolers and Mike's hard lemonade and spiked punch where you can't taste the alcohol that much

Workplace bonding activities. Ours always have inspirational speakers for some reason. If you're motivated by inspirational speakers, that's awesome and I'm glad you're having a great time, but I'd rather get back to work. I can't stand the taste of alcohol and I hate socializing/schmoozing/gossipping. The latter makes me feel really bad for the person everyone is gossipping about.

Places that place music. It's everywhere, and I usually hate it.

Being civil to co-workers. Being civil to people that have made fun of you in the past or who think badly of you in the present. Etiquette says that you're supposed to be kind or civil. Meh.

Celebrities, reality TV, drinking/partying/going to bars or clubs...there's probably more I can't think of right now.

Gossiping/talking shit about people/small talk at work. I honestly don't give a flying ass about who's fucking who in the work place, or how you think So and So is OMG SOOOOOOOOO stupid and annoying! or what you're doing after work today. Just...shut up and let me do my work.

Dating.

Not the actual date itself, but the whole process around it, going out with strangers and trying to force a connection. It feels like a lame meat market.

Dating, bars and clubs, drinking.

The first I totally admit is probably some sort of mild social anxiety, the second is partly because I never learned in my youth and saw it as a waste of money and because of the third, which is a big part of bar and club life. I never acquired a taste for alcohol and I don't see a point doing so, and facing the risks that come from getting drunk.
