(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 01:13 am (UTC)(link)look, I hate badly made child heroes, and I hate boring savior tropes. THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS STORY IS.
Bastion and Atreyu's story is completely mixed together in the film, but it's utterly BASTION's story. It's not ABOUT being the one hero, savior of all. It was never just about the destruction of a fantasy landscape - it was about protecting the joy and imagination within himself after his mother died and everyone else is trying to suck his few bits of refuge out of him. It's a love letter to the joy of reading.
I'll grant you this much - the movie fucks up the message somewhat in comparison to the novel, but it's still a lot of fun.
