I blocked a friend about a year ago, because every interaction was upsetting. I didn't let them know why and I have no idea if they have noticed.

Sometimes I worry people will ask me how they are. Should I unblock them in case they have tried to say hi? I don't want to offend them but I also want them to have me alone.

Is there a mutual friend you could ask? IDK, it sounds like you have ghosted this person, and unless you gave some sort of warning in advance that interaction with them was upsetting you, or they're an extremely busy person to whom your friendship was not all that important, they probably have noticed and are wondering why.

Mutual friends do not know I have blocked them. Usually people ask me how they are because I live the closest.

I didn't give them any warning (I think, I had been trying to distance myself for months. I was hoping we could drift apart naturally), I just stopped starting conversations with them and after 2 months of them not starting one with me (In a "your choice" kind of way I hope) I blocked their phone.

Every conversation with them was drama. I am thinking about it because there is another person now in my life, a coworker not a friend, who is the same where everything is stressful drama and demands for your help.

Would you feel comfortable about explaining the situation to at least one trusted mutual friend? Maybe they are in the same position you are--they've blocked this person to get away from their drama and selfishness, but still hope this person is OK.

I don't mean to condemn you for ghosting, btw, because sometimes I think it's justified. There are some people who say "I deserve an explanation for this breakup!" but what they really mean is that they feel entitled to an opportunity to argue or guilt you out of your decision to step away.
