Caryl shippers' tears are so delicious. Ship whatever you want, but bitching because your platonic relationship isn't romantic is ridiculous. They love each other but are not in love, stop trying to ruin one of the few male/female friendships.

I'm not in this fandom but I don't think the ~sacred platonic male-female relationships fairy~ would fall to its death if we actually got an example of a guy being romantically involved with an older woman rather than the other way around.

I don't see why a romantic relationship would have to "ruin" what they already have but anyway...

I'm a Caryl shipper and most of the Caryl shippers I've seen were HAPPY that Richonne was canon, regardless of whether they shipped it or not. We were all celebrating with the Richonners when it happened because a lead white male getting together with a black woman on one of the most popular series on TV is a huge deal. And a win against racism gives us hope that our ship will win against ageism. I'm sad that my OTP isn't canon but Richonne is important too.

Whoops, that was meant to be a reply to the above comment.

IA, I haven't seen a lot of Daryl/Carol shippers making a fuss about Rick/Michonne being canon; if anything I've seen a ton of them congratulate Richonne shippers.

Not saying there aren't people out there that aren't pissed, there are always unhappy people (there are even people who think Rick and Michonne had a 'sibling like' relationship and don't like them hooking up), but I don't feel like they're the majority.

For the record, I ship both, though I do think of Daryl as asexual so there's not a lot of steamy sex involved in my fantasies.

And while I would love Carol and Daryl to be a couple, I don't 'expect it' and I'm just as excited (if not more excited) that Rick and Michonne are canon. They have one of the best relationships on the show, and along with Carl they make an adorable family.

Of course they're happy with Richonne, it keeps Michonne from getting paired up with Daryl.

Caryl fandom on Tumblr seems mostly cool with Richonne, I agree. There were a handful of complainers, but most were positive about it. It's mostly in message boards and the like where they got wanky about the whole thing. In retrospect, it's hilarious. When that Rick/Michonne promo art for Season 6B dropped and Richonne shippers got excited about it, some (not a lot, I don't think, and they were definitely not the only ones) Caryl shippers took to concern trolling, kindly (and not at all condescendingly!) reminding Richonne shippers that The Power That Be baited shippers all the time, that actors often lied to get their hopes up, and it never ever led to fan-favorite ships actually happening.

And then boom, Richonne hit, Gimple and company actually went there, it turned out Andrew Lincoln wasn't yanking everyone's chains the way Norman Reedus sometimes does, and then, well, you can guess what happened next.

I'm just waiting for Carol to actually have a scene again...

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, SERIOUSLY.

Absolutely. Every week I'm going, "Okay, but where is Carol?"

A friend said, "This is a good thing, if she doesn't get screen-time she won't be killed off" and while I understand wanting her safe...there's not much point in her being on the show if they aren't going to use her. The people of Alexandria know she's a badass now, UNLEASH HER.

Welp, Daryl will get Lucilled or Jesused soon, their ship is dead anyway.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand people who think their ships MUST happen. Like yes it can be nice if it happens (the Richonne scene seriously was beautiful and I never even shipped them that hard) but it can also be a DISASTER when two characters get together and can be written so badly that it ruins your ship. Sometimes it's better to just enjoy the small moments and if you really need more, read fic.

Walking Dead is also not one of those shows where I need to see ships get together, I don't like getting into ships that could possibly be doomed (characters die constantly on that show, and even with the main cast that may stick around I could still see them biting it in the final season.)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck you for taking pleasure in other people's disappointment. You don't have to like it, ship it, or want to hear about it. But enjoying that other people's ships sinking makes you a horrible person. Fandom should be fun and taking pleasure in other people's pain is a classic sign of a personality disorder. Maybe it's time to leave fandom and get some perspective on life. And this goes for all ships/fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pettiness is now a symptom of a personality disorder? LMAO. Way to overreact, anon.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I take pleasure in other people's delusions being crushed by canon. If canon had ever implied that Carol and Daryl have feelings for each other then I would probably feel bad for their shippers for the bait and switch. But it isn't the case.

HAHAHAHAHA

Caryl is a NOTP of mine as well, and I really hope that the writers don't go that way. I don't really want to see Daryl paired off with anyone on the show.
