Re: What fandoms do you miss?
...but not actually "Stargate Universe."

Oooh now I'm also having SG1 pangs! Ahh I loved Jack O'Neill so much. It was a great universe, and I really wish they'd fire it up again (but do it better than SGU).
Re: What fandoms do you miss?
I don't know. Maybe one day. Maybe 8 years from now I can at least get my nephew into it.
I'd love for them to continue it too, but I think they'd have to work hard not to run into the same issues that SGU had. Mainly, twisting the tone of the show to fit whatever current TV trends there are. Stargate at its heart is optimistic, focusing on small team that eventually operates like family, with central base of operations that feels like home, and episodically exploring a new world each week with a sense of adventure.
And I think you could tweak one or two of those elements, but anything more doesn't feel like it's part of the same universe. (See SGU: cynical with only hints of optimism, constant clashes between crew members and who's sleeping with who, almost everyone resents the Destiny and wants to get home, a lot of the new world exploration was about survival.)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)You perfectly described what I found off-putting about SGU - it totally lacked the small group dynamic. And you're right, SG1 and SGA did have a very optimistic, family feel to it. SGU felt like it was trying to fit in with the 'gritty reboot' trend, I think.
The whole idea of a stargate is such a great concept for a sci-fi show. I really want it to come back in some form.
