Dead blog aside...

This might or might not work. I can see some people popping in out of curiosity but very few staying. Newcomers to fandom will go to tumblr and twitter first because that's what they are more comfortable there and because it's where fandom is located now. Also lets be honest here, we're adults and some of us can get quite snarky. Imagine young ones popping in just to get snarled at hahahaha~

Also I think posting on these sites where you can have actual conversations you really need a thick skin because people will sometimes ask you to defend your opinion. Sure, it usually means some really good conversations and meta pop out in those, but Tumblr culture is pretty non-confrontational in this aspect.
