Better to die than to become infected with Tumblr cancer. Stop trying to ruin this place, please.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Surprised it took this long to see this.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe instead of blaming everything you don't like on the tumblr bogeyman you should look to improving yourself and trying to have more of a positive impact on the world around you

Looks like someone is trigger warninged.

A good portion of the people already here use Tumblr, you know. Tumblr isn't a synonym of "eeevil SJW", in any case.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'm on tumblr AND here. It's just another social media platform, not the boogeyman.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we know. It's obvious.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

Tumblr is probably the worst place to try to have a discussion or an opinion about anything ever. I don't want Tumblr users here.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm already here and you can't make me leave.

Maybe that's how the site is set up, rather than the users? It's not a monolith. I've seen blogs for teachers, shoplifters, neo-Nazis...

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I've been here since 2010, and I can tell you for 100% fact that things were HUGELY shittier here before tumblr became as big as it is today. You think tumblr is bad, you clearly are unfamiliar with how insanely nasty and terrible livejournal was in its heyday. We used to get DOZENS of LJ trolls from certain awful awful comms in here trolling and being generally terrible, disgusting people every damn day. Compared to back then, FS is a wonderful dream of civility and happiness now. Tumblr ain't the boogeyman causing trouble. It's just the most popular place for the terrible people to be atm. And they are WAY less organized than LJ used to be wrt brigading and being nasty en masse.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry for you if that's your experience, but the LJ communities I was a member of (and some of them were for huge fandoms like Hetalia or Supernatural) were all pretty nice places with interesting discussions for the new chapters/episodes and members sharing art and fics. Sure, there was some wank from time to time, but it wasn't the norm.

I have very fond memories of the LJ days.

Worth a try.

(Big kitties are best kitties!)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not exactly new, I used to come here all the time, then didn't for a while- started working the overnight shift, so when the posts went live I was at work, and when I got around to them everything was already dead, but now that I no longer work that shift I can stop by a little more often. So maybe I'll help.

But I'd really hate to see this place go the way of tumblr. 15-year-old SJWs probably aren't really the new blood you want.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
All online communities have their reasonable users and their obnoxious users. I'd hate to see the worst of tumblr here almost as much as I'd hate to see the worst of reddit here, but where else are you gonna recruit? Twitter, maybe? Whatever DW/LJ communities still survive?

Sorry if that came off as confrontational. I just genuinely don't know what kind of a space would be best to advertize in to try to attract the most reasonable new contributors.

FS survived the SJWs back on LJ just fine, despite how nasty things sometimes got. If the tumblr crowd does ever come I wouldn't worry too much.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe those 15 year olds could learn a few things from us old bags over here lol

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh I'm not going to judge, but I dunno if I want people who see in only black and white or "perfect and flawless or evil oppressive trash" around. Or more people who will react with a kneejerk "ugh kill yourself" to something they decide is a harmful opinion.

Well...there might be other promotion blogs to submit to, if it means that much to you. (I've never even seen those blogs, but it's neat that they exist.)

As far as tumblr's userbase goes: yea, of course there are 'bad seeds' on tumblr, but those are everywhere; you're never going to be completely satisfied with a site or platforms userbase, so the idea isn't that upsetting to me. Even if we got some new users, there's no guarantee they would stick around, and even if they did, we might not get much more traffic. We've had rough periods before, so even if things changed, I think we could adjust or 'outlive it'. lol.

I want f!s to survive too, and as much as I love our current users (anon and named), I wouldn't mind seeing some new faces around here either.

(Er, on a personal note: I haven't been able to make it to f!s as much lately, and when I do, sometimes I'm drained and don't have much to say. It's a thing that happens, so I wouldn't count users out if they stop coming around as frequently; it isn't always the comms fault, and people do make reappearances.)

Dead blog aside...

This might or might not work. I can see some people popping in out of curiosity but very few staying. Newcomers to fandom will go to tumblr and twitter first because that's what they are more comfortable there and because it's where fandom is located now. Also lets be honest here, we're adults and some of us can get quite snarky. Imagine young ones popping in just to get snarled at hahahaha~

Also I think posting on these sites where you can have actual conversations you really need a thick skin because people will sometimes ask you to defend your opinion. Sure, it usually means some really good conversations and meta pop out in those, but Tumblr culture is pretty non-confrontational in this aspect.

I appreciate the effort, no matter where you went to promote it.

...But I'm mostly commenting just to squee over the fact that you used a cheetah in your secret image. Cheetahs are my favorite animal, and it's nice to see them pop up in unexpected places.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it would help. Social media in general is no longer conversation-based. It's about small, easily digestible sound bytes.
