Book Club thread - POLL FOR APRIL

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-03-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
APRIL POLL HERE! Please read the following before voting:

Please vote for a book to read in April! Everyone gets one vote. The poll will close on Friday when secrets are posted and results will be posted. (In the future I'll try to keep them up for one week, but we got a late start this month and I want to give people plenty of time to get the book!)

Some notes:

It's been brought to my attention that one of the books, Who Framed Roger Rabbit by Gary K. Wolf, should have a TW for rape. Please keep that in mind while voting. Research any book you're interested in as well especially if there's content you really want to avoid.

In the future, I think I will ask for any relevant TWs to be included in a rec. You should definitely not consider them conclusive and do some research yourself, but it would be a nice piece of info to have nonetheless. (I'm defining relevant TWs as things like rape, abuse, sexual assault, and violence.) That said, I will NOT exclude any book from the running because it has triggery content. That would open up a potential floodgate of whining and posturing to try to bolster or eliminate certain books before the poll. All books will have a fair chance.

I will try to post this poll every day this week. Thursday it may be posted a little later or not at all. Not yet sure how that will work out.

It didn't occur to me that any of the books had been read by the nominators beforehand. I assumed we were all nominating books we were intending to read one day.

I think it's definitely possible to be aware of potential triggers in a book you haven't read, especially if you've researched it enough to rec it.

Of course something unexpected might come up, but it doesn't hurt to share any info you do have.
