For me this goes for every character in HP -- none of the actors look anything like what I had in mind (except for McGonagall, Dumbledore and maybe Hagrid), so I never picture them as their actors when I read fics and I avoid fanarts made to look like the actors.

Which makes me annoyed at 'short!Harry' depictions in fics (along with conventionally pretty!Hermione). He's lanky like James in my head (though not as tall as Ron), and physical descriptions in fics would some times take me out of it. I mean, if those fix authors stick to Radcliffe's height, they should stick to Radcliffe's eye colour too, no?

Have rarely met a description of Harry that didn't throw me out of the fic tbh, you get everything from DanRad!Harry to giant burly, broad-shouldered muscled!Harry which is even more ooc (does Seeker build mean nothing to anyone anymore?)

I'll admit though, the descriptions get more accurate if you avoid Dark Lord Potter fics and certain ships.

I have a kink for long-haired frail twinks, but fics with emo cutter Harry in ripped fish-net gloves, pining for the Snapecock, always made me laugh too hard to be able to read them.

So much about this comment is pure gold! Thank you for the first laugh I've had today!

lol yeah, when I said certain ships I did mainly mean the slash ones (well, Harry/Ron or Harry/Neville aren't bad, they generally keep to the canon description of the character. Harry/Draco and Harry/Snape otoh...) or Harry/Hermione.

I always assumed Harry should be short because of early childhood malnutrition, tbh. Long before the movies.

Canon Harry is "a midget in glasses" at least as far as the end of GoF. He grows after that to be as tall as James (confirmed in the scene with the resurrection stone in DH), but we don't know exactly how tall James was, except that he was apparently the same height as Narcissa Malfoy because Harry is as tall as Narcissa Malfoy (confirmed in that scene at Madam Malkin's in HBP).

/knows too much HP trivia

The HBP scene is at the beginning of the school year, he had a year of eating well at Hogwarts after that, so he could have grown quite a bit. All we can say is that he's at least as tall as Narcissa.

ayrt

I assumed he is only as tall as Narcissa because when Harry sees his father in Snape's pensieve in OotP, he notes that when James stands up "they would be within an inch of each other in height", and then when he sees James again in DH they're exactly the same height. HBP is in between, I figure that's when he must've grown that last inch. Although it's possible that James was still growing in 5th year, and they both just stopped at the same time.

Oh yes, good point.
